The purpose of the Lancashire Elementary School website is to provide a means of effective communication between administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents, and our community.
According to the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 , "directory information" about students may be released by the school or district without parental consent, provided annual notification has been given and the school does not have on file written denial to release "directory information".
Directory information is defined as information contained in an education record of a student which would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. The FERPA legislation is available online at http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html
It includes, but is not limited to:
- The student’s name
- Photographs of the student used by the school for recognition of student achievement and community relations, including, but not limited to, publication in the district’s or school’s newsletters or publications, in the school setting and on the district’s or school’s website
- Participation in officially recognized activities such as sports
It is Lancashire Elementary School's policy to:
Use only students' first name or no name at all with a photograph of student.
Use only students' first and last name in a list with no photographs or any otherwise identifiable information.
Never publish on the website location information of any student (address, phone number, etc.)
Authors of this website will exercise discretion in making judgments concerning publication of student information and take reasonable precautions to insure security and privacy.
Please email or submit in writing to Mr. Ned Gladfelter, Principal, if you do not wish to have your child's name or photo published on Lancashire Elementary School.

NOTIFICATION OF RIGHTS September 2014 Brandywine Review
Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act Department of Education Regulation 251 Brandywine School District Board of Education Policy 08.9
Public notice is hereby given: To parents, legal guardians/custodians, or relative caregivers (“Parents”) of students in the Brandywine School District; Students who are 18 years of age or older living on their own (“Eligible Students”); and students who have graduated from the Brandywine School District (“Former Students”); Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), Department of Education Regulation 251, and Brandywine School District Board of Education Policy 08.9, information directly relating to students in the Brandywine School District and maintained in a students cumulative file and/or audit file are known as “education records”. Parents, Eligible Students and Former Students and Parents have the right to: (1) Inspect and review education records; (2) Attain copies of education records; (3) Receive an explanation or interpretation of the education records from appropriate instructional or administrative staff; (4) Ask to correct any incorrect information in education records that is (a) inaccurate, (b) misleading, or (c) violates the privacy or other rights; (5) Be informed, in writing, if a request to amend the education records is denied and the reason for the denial; (6) Have a formal hearing if the request to amend the record is denied; (7) Be permitted to place a statement in the education records if the request continues to be denied after the formal hearing; (8) Request a copy of any Brandywine School District policies and/or written regulations concerning education records; and (9) File a complaint if you believe that employees of the Brandywine School District are not complying with FERPA, Regulation 251 or Policy 08.9. Information regarding the District’s policy and procedures on student records is available through the Department of Pupil Services or on the District’s Website in the Board Policy & Regulations Manual. Parents, Eligible Student and Former Students may waive any of the listed rights. Such waiver is not valid unless it is in writing, signed by a Parent Eligible Students, or Former Student and forwarded to the District Officer listed below.
Personally identifiable information from education records shall not be disclosed to third parties without the written consent of Parents, Eligible Students or Former Students, except the Brandywine School District may use and disclose “directory information” to third parties without written consent for Brandywine School District purposes. “Directory Information”, includes, but is not limited to, a student’s name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, pictures of in school activities (i.e. year book pictures or pictures on the District or School website), video or print images, and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student, and other similar information, disclosed to third parties without the consent of Parents, Former Students, or Eligible Students. Parents, Eligible Students, or Former Students may designate other types of personally identifiable information as “Directory Information”, in writing to the District Officer listed below.
Parents, Former Students or any student 18 years of age or older, who does not wish to permit the release of such “directory information” must notify the District Officer listed below in writing on or before October 17, 2010. Failure to do so shall be considered to be authorization to release such “directory information” as may be deemed appropriate by the Brandywine School District.
