The overall goal of the Foreign Language Department at Concord High School is to have students communicate effectively inside and outside the classroom setting and to become familiar with the target cultures and their influence throughout the world. Students are taught oral and written comprehension in authentic patterns of the target language. Values and customs of the people and significant geographic and historical features of the respective countries are also studied. Students of a foreign language will gain greater insight and perspective into their own language through the study of another.
Due to the interactive and communicative nature of foreign language learning, students must possess a high level of self-control and a desire to learn. Excessive absences will have a major impact on the grade due to oral performance grading in the class.
Students should be on or above grade level in English reading or writing scores to be eligible for foreign language. Students who have passed any level with a “C” or higher should continue to the next level. After passing a course, no student may enroll in any lower level of the same language for credit. Students must have earned all “A’s” to enroll in Honors II along with a teacher recommendation.
